Dr. Syed Adnan Ali Shah Bukhari is an Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Hong Kong Research Center for Asian Studies (RCAS), Hong Kong. He is currently working as a Senior Researcher at the Centre for International Strategic Analyses (KEDISA) located in Athens, Greece. He carries more than 20 years of experience in the fields of policy research, academia, capacity building, socio-development and media sectors.


Dr Bukhari specializes in South & Central Asian politics and security, where he has focused on internal and external dynamics of the region, including terrorism and insurgencies. He is currently focussing on China and Indo-Pacific and its impact on South Asia. He has published in national and international journals and magazines. He has also appeared in media outlets like the Channel News Asia, PTV etc.


Dr Bukhari has worked in numerous leading thinktanks including the S.Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore; Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI); Geneva Centre for Training & Analysis of Terrorism (GCTAT); Fudan Development Institute (FDDI), Shanghai; and FATA Research Centre Islamabad. He has also taught at the Rabdan Academy (UAE) and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST), Islamabad. Apart from academic and policy institutions, Dr Bukhari has worked as a consultant with numerous development agencies like the UNDP, UNESCO, DFID, GIZ, German Federal Foreign Office and Coffey International on post-conflict reconstruction (PCR) initiatives in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border land. He has also been part of capacity building initiatives in counterterrorism and PCR in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Singapore, Bangladesh and Switzerland.


Dr Bukhari has earned his PhD in International Relations from RSIS at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and an MA in International Relations from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan.
