Dr. Muhammad Azam is Non-resident Fellow of Research Centre for Asian Studies (RCAS), China, as well as Assistant Professor (https://su.edu.pk/facultyprofile/207) at the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan. He has also served as head of the department. He has a PhD (2011) in Politics and International Relations from the International Islamic University, Islamabad. He was a Visiting Fellow at the Gulf Research Center (GRC), Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2010. As a research officer, he has served at the National Assembly Secretariat, Parliament House, Islamabad; as a research analyst at Pak Institute of Peace Studies (PIPS), Islamabad; and associate editor Conflict and Peace Studies (PIPS, Islamabad).
In addition, he has contributed to several research projects. He has won several scholarships, fellowships, awards, and positions, including a 5-year PhD fellowship award (Higher Education Commission, Islamabad). He has published papers in national and international journals and has participated in national and international conferences in Pakistan and abroad. One of his recent research papers “Afghanistan-Pakistan Relations: From Uncertainty and Confrontation to Optimism” has appeared in Pakistan’s Foreign Policy: Contemporary Developments, edited by Ghulam Ali, (London: Routledge, 2022). His paper “Provincial Finance Commissions in the Punjab: Implications for Governance and Development” appeared in Perspectives on Contemporary Pakistan: Governance, Development and Environment (Routledge, 2020). He has appeared in several TV and Radio programmes and has contributed columns to several newspapers including The News, Pakistan Observer, Frontier Post and Daily Times.
